This week in Forest School, Year 3 learned the skill of leaf bashing – Hapa Zome.

This is the Japanese art of tapping leaves with hammers and pounding the natural pigment into a cloth. The boys responsibly collected a range of leaves and petals and carefully arranged them on their cloth. Another piece of cloth was then placed on top and the boys then gently tapped everything in order to extract the pigments from the leaves and petal, resulting in a beautiful image being left on the cloth.
