Bringing Stories to Life: Creative Writing and AI Commoner

Previous
Next

This term, a group of enthusiastic boys from Years 5 to 8 have been taking part in the ‘Creative Writing and AI’ Commoner.

This is an activity that blends imagination with technology. Throughout the term, the boys have been crafting vivid character and setting descriptions before embarking on their own story-writing adventures.

What makes this Commoner so exciting is the way it brings the boys' ideas to life. After writing a section of their story, or a description of a character or location, they watch in amazement as an AI platform transforms their words into striking images. They have explored different AI tools, discovering how the same passage can produce a variety of interpretations. This has sparked lively discussions about how words shape visuals and even encouraged them to refine their descriptions when an image didn’t quite match their vision.

The excitement in the room is infectious—each session has been filled with energy, creativity, and an eagerness to write more. The boys are not just experimenting with AI; they are developing their storytelling skills, expanding their vocabulary, and learning the power of precise description. Best of all, every idea has been entirely their own, proving that technology can be a fantastic tool for enhancing, rather than replacing, human creativity.

It has been wonderful to see their passion for writing grow – we hope you enjoy seeing some of the images their words created!
