Latin and Greek Reading competition

Fourteen Classicists met some like-minded pupils from other schools at King Edward VI School in Southampton on Thursday afternoon to perform dialogues and readings in Latin and Greek at the annual Latin and Greek Reading Competition, Junior section.

A dialogue between an unscrupulous medicine-man and a potential client, a scene from a journey to the Underworld and the retelling of the premise of the Trojan War were the performances that placed our boys at the top of their sections. The humorous portrayal of an unwise purchase was also given very positive feedback. Congratulations to Alfie L, Arthur H, Barnaby D, Ben S, George M and Sam Q for their convincing performances in Latin and Greek that swayed the adjudicator's vote; it was a tough call, as the level of the performances was high.

Well done to all our team, who managed to fit in this event in a very busy week. Despite not having had much opportunity to practise, they all delivered with great flair and visible enjoyment, representing the School brilliantly in every way.

The added bonus for Mr Reid and myself was meeting Old Pilgrims' again, ready to perform in the Senior section of the Competition and still pursuing keenly the study of the Classics.
