Year 4 Tile Barn residential
Year 4 had a highly entertaining time away on their residential to the Tile Barn Activities Centre, in the New Forest, last week.
The trip consisted of a range of team-building activities, led by trained instructors, that allowed the boys to develop their skills of resilience, perseverance, and collaboration. The most popular of the activities was the vertical gym. This was a climbing activity that challenged the boys to climb up a range of materials to a height of 10 + metres. The boys exceeded their own expectations, climbing higher than they thought they could when standing on the floor staring up at the towering structure. Several of the boys conquered their fears and got to the very top, standing on a narrow beam high in the air. The boys not climbing had the responsibility of managing the ropes of the climbers, working together to ensure that everyone was kept safe and secure, allowing each other to achieve their climbs.
Aside from the instructor led activities, the boys embraced drawing the beautiful New Forest countryside under the guidance of Mr Walters and were fully involved in the nature identification tasks devised by Mr Townend. The boys also enjoyed their downtime by playing football, volleyball, and cricket with the staff and gaps. The food on the trip was another highlight for the boys, with the centre providing huge quantities which were enjoyed by all! The staff at the centre commented on how well the boys worked together, highlighting their ability to problem-solve not simply as individuals, but as a group.
The boys were excellent company throughout, with the teachers on the trip saying how impressed we were with their positive approach to all aspects of the residential trip. A big well done to all the boys!
