Senior Speech Competition Final
On Thursday morning, we welcomed David Anson, Head of English at Bedales, to come and adjudicate our Senior Speech Competition.
The competition sees a round of class heats at the start of term which whittles things down to a final 12. This years' finalists were absolutely brilliant, and quintessentially 'Pilgrims-y' in breadth of topic, ranging from 'Why Father Christmas is a bad role model' to 'London's Six airports.'
Highly commended in Year 6 was Patrick B, who spoke brilliantly about 'Migration' and highly commended in Year 7 was Ike C, whose speech on 'Why Saturday school should be abolished' was excellently delivered. Many boys were rooting for Arthur M's speech on 'Why TikTok should be made illegal' which was very enjoyable, too!
However, the overall award went to Elijah A, whose speech 'AI? Yes, please!' was astonishingly well-organised, considered, developed and delivered, to make him a deserving winner.
The standard of these speeches was exceptionally high this year and the courage needed to speak in front of a packed Pilgrims' Hall should not be underestimated. Thank you to all the boys for their hard work and to the staff who helped nurture and encourage them in order to make it such a fantastic event.
