Congratulations to the 'dubbed' Qs!
This special ceremony...
Our Year 6 Quiristers were 'dubbed' during Evensong this week. This special ceremony was conducted by the Second Master of Winchester College, Nick Wilks. He was given the honour of dubbing the boys, as this was his last opportunity to do so before retiring at the end of the academic year. This was particularly special, as he is an Old Quirister himself.
Dubbing marks the end of a probationary period in the choir, and marks the beginning of being a 'full' Quirister. This is clearly indicated by the four Qs receiving their white surplices to wear over their red cassocks.
A favourite anthem by composer Eleanor Daley was sung beautifully as the service drew to a close. The evening concluded with a delightful social occasion in the Pilgrims' Hall, with extremely tasty canapés served by the next generation of Q probationers. The Year 5 'probs' proved they are progressing well as they sang on their own during Thursday's service. They did so very beautifully indeed!
