The Headmaster's Christmas Card 2023
(for boys in Year 7 and 8)
Mr Butcher is looking for an outstanding image to put on this year's school Christmas card which he will be sending on behalf of the school. Boys in Years 7 and 8 are invited to submit their landscape-format drawings or paintings for consideration. The selected work/s will receive a Head's Show Up for their efforts and copies of the final card for their own portfolios.
The theme of this year's card is: 'Christmas at Pilgrims' and this would, of course, include images of our beloved Cathedral, School and The Close.
This would be a very worthwhile half-term activity for boys who love to draw and paint. Please could all submissions be handed to Mr Walters no later than Monday 30 October 2023. Finalists and winners will be announced in assembly on Monday 6 November.
All artworks must be:
- landscape format
- a drawing (no chalk or oil pastel please)
- a painting
- no bigger than A3
- no smaller than A5
- named on the back.
In considering your design, you might take inspiration from these well-known examples:
- Fra Angelico's Annunciation
- Leonardo da Vinci's Madonna Litta
- Pieter Bruegel's Winter Landscape with Ice skaters might inspire a seasonal view of Pilgrims'
- Or perhaps Winchester Cathedral's stained glass windows, especially The Nativity by Edward Burne-Jones in the Epiphany chapel could give you an idea?
Or you may wish to take a Christmas themed text and try your hand at illuminating it - see the Winchester Bible for example Winchester Bible.
