'The River Itchen' by Otto G (Year 8)

As a busy and bustling school of young and energetic boys, it is very easy to forget how fortunate we are to be located in the heart of Winchester. This beautiful watercolour was painted by Otto as a passion project for his Art portfolio. It captures the section of the Itchen that flows through our campus, and it was begun at the outset of last Autumn.

I must admit that I often have to pinch myself when I'm in this part of our school to assure myself that I am not dreaming. I can barely believe that it was this same river, just on the other side of the College, that inspired John Keats to compose his mournful and evocative ode "To Autumn" over two centuries ago. And yet here it is, and here I am.

Thank you, Otto, for reminding us that we have such incredible beauty all around us. Have a Show Up for your efforts!
