Swanage Bay field study challenges

Strong winds and heavy downpours proved to be a challenge for our Year 8 on their recent trip to the coast.

The low pressure in the Atlantic made for interesting conditions on the Dorset beach. The sea level was considerably higher than normal, and the boys were unable to reach the natural beach safely to collect more data. However, this gave them more of an opportunity to collect details of the managed section of the beach - and to enjoy lunch when the sun made a welcome if fleeting appearance. Some truisms were identified: water is wet, trainers are not waterproof, the wind will remove your data-sheet if left unattended, and yes, sand does indeed get into everything!
