Year 3 trip to Hounslow Urban Farm

On Tuesday the Year 3 boys visited the Hounslow Urban Farm. This is a conservation/ rescue/ farm set under the flight path of Heathrow Airport.

The boys were given hands-on talks which allowed them to handle many animals including cockroaches, a Royal Python, a Boa Constrictor, a Blue Tongued Lizard and an Eagle Owl.

Possibly the highlight of the tour was to meet Bex. Bex is a Leopard Tortoise who was rescued 15 years ago from illegal animal imports. He is now the size of a wheelbarrow. Also, in this group the boys handled and viewed two other breeds of tortoise, again both rescued.

They hand-fed sheep, goats and alpacas, whilst also seeing rare and endangered animals from across the globe.

The farm is an amazing environment; open and natural with the staff doing incredible work to rescue and save many species. It is open all the year round and always welcomes visitors.

Below are three quotes from boys to give you an idea of what they thought of the trip:

I had the best time of my life there. I loved all of it. I liked it so much I wished I could go there every day. It was the best.  Teddy H
I enjoyed it a lot because we were feeding rescued animals. I have never been to a farm where all the animals have been rescued. It was amazing. – Abhinav S
It was great fun seeing all the snakes and a pink tarantula and the huge tortoise Bex. The marmosets were crazy, but happy because they have been rescued. - Edward N

My thanks to Miss Erasmus, Mr Buck and Mr Bell who accompanied us and I know also enjoyed the day.
