Quirister steps into great-great-great grandfather’s shoes

Recently, The Winchester College Quiristers, who study and board at The Pilgrims’ School, performed in a concert at the Church of St Cross and what a treat it was.

Especially for 11-year-old Henry, who clearly felt at home, stepping where his ancestors had trodden over a century ago, reading from the pulpit then singing like an angel!

Henry’s proud father, Robert Brodrick, said “Henry’s great-great-great-grandfather was Canon the Hon Alan Brodrick, who was Master of St Cross in the early 1900s. His wife, Emily, (Henry’s great-great-great grandmother) was a writer and when she died in 1906, the South Chapel and organ were restored in her memory. Canon Brodrick also presented what is now the parish hall (where the Quiristers enjoyed their supper) to the parishioners in memory of his son George who died in the early 1900s."

What a legacy and a wonderful experience for Henry. He said, “It was not only lovely to be singing a solo but to be singing it in a place where my great-great-great-grandfather would have stood.”
