News from inside a boarding weekend

Group of boarders displaying their baking results

Our boarders embraced the cold yet sunny weekend, relishing the dry weather and welcome sunshine after January's prolonged grey spell!

Saturday evening unfolded quietly, with most boys enjoying a little tuck, some cocoa and a movie in their pyjamas, though a few still lamented the rugby results earlier in the afternoon. Sunday began with a well-deserved lie-in, followed by Winchester's finest breakfast before the choirs prepared for Eucharist in Cathedral and Chapel.

The morning saw the boys engrossed in an array of activities - from board games and table tennis to football and pool, with Louis and Miss Purcell achieving particular distinction!

A hearty traditional roast dinner lunch preceded the afternoon's highlight: Boarders' Baking.

The weekend team - Mr Short, Mr Reynolds, Miss Purcell, and Mr Leslie - steeled themselves for potential chaos as the boys tackled bread and muffin making.

To everyone's delight, disasters proved rare and the results quite delectable.

For some novice bakers, it marked their first attempt at creating from scratch, while others found it a heart-warming reminder of kitchen adventures at home.

Honoré claimed top honours for bread, whilst Charlie and Hugo's muffins earned the highest praise.

Thank you to all boys and staff in school over the weekend, you were super company to share it with.
