National Poetry Day

On National Poetry Day, yesterday, Mr Darlow, Head of English, put together a poem to read to the boys about safety in school in Assembly. We thought you might enjoy it too!

Safety at Pilgrims'

Safety's the theme and rhyming's the day,
Teacher's aren't safe, I just want to say,
That whilst Pilgrims' is lovely and you are all great,
There's a decrease in safety for teachers of late.

And I'll tell you just why,
I'll explain to you now,
I'll explain why this safety's not here,
I'll show how.

Imagine, please do when you're playing at break,
Perhaps you've been good and you've just got your cake,
but then you run on to the gridy gridy,
all 'Pass me the ball, pass to me, I'm all free!'

And just as you're about to shoot top bins for goal,
You start to fall into a virtual black hole,
for 'ON THE GRID' is called, but for you it's too late,
you've pulled back the trigger and shot - is it fate?

And because you are wayward, you've done a bad shot,
you can't stop it now, no, no you cannot,
Time starts to slow and mouths open wide,
as the ball shoots off awfully, far off to the side,

towards a poor teacher, this teacher is me,
At this point I'm really not feeling safety,
but luckily, because it is me and I'm great,
I header the ball and put on a plate,

The ball in the mixer for - hear it, MRS BRILL,
who's timed her late run with the greatest of skill
and she volleys the ball in the back of the net,
And you clap and you cheer, it's the best goal seen yet,

'In or over' is called and the teachers have won
1-0 to us teachers, you boys have got none!
Happy old national poetry day,
Be good, be immense - you may go on your way.
