Year 3 D&T field trip to Winchester Science Centre
Another week, another D&T field trip – this time for Year 3.
I have lived in Winchester all my life and have often wondered what resides in that dome-shaped building near the Percy Hobbs roundabout. Year 3 can tell you, quite a lot!
On both floors of the building there are many hands-on experiments, which the boys loved playing with (and learning about!), many of which focus on the science and technology we encounter in everyday items and tasks. One of the highlights of the morning was the rocket building workshop, giving the boys the chance to explore the concepts of aerodynamics and friction whilst designing their rockets, which were propelled by vapour from methylated spirits – very fun indeed! Our trip this morning ended with a riveting talk (or lecture!) about the solar system in the wonderful planetarium which, as you can see from the photographs, gives participants the opportunity to really view and understand the night sky.
This was an immersive, educational, and particularly fun trip and special thanks to Mr Cleaver and Mr Bruce for their assistance during the trip, and to Year 3 for their sheer enthusiasm.
