7Y visit Winchester Cathedral as part of their research for their Lightbox Project
One of the many elements I enjoy about my job is the way projects evolve through teacher and student collaboration – the Year 7 Lightbox Project is an excellent example of this progression.
It was about a year ago I was sitting in the Cathedral during the October Harvest Service, and it struck me how many geometric patterns there are in the Cathedral; I realised this was an excellent opportunity for the boys to seek inspiration for the design of their lightboxes. Therefore, 7Y had the opportunity to be guided around the Cathedral by the Director of Learning and Safeguarding Manager at Winchester Cathedral, Emma Bourner (also a Pilgrims’ Governor).
The boys were treated to an informative and thought-provoking tour whereby they photographed their findings on the School’s Surface Gos. Incidentally, if you happen to be local and free any evening between now and next weekend, then I highly recommend you visit the Luxmuarlis projection in the Cathedral. It proves to be a spectacular show: more information here.
