Year 7 Art Trip to the New Art Centre, Roche Court, Salisbury
The Year 7s enjoyed a world-class day of sculpture at the New Art Centre, Roche Court, on Friday 22 September.
The boys conducted themselves without reproach, engaging with every part of the day to the best of their ability. The outstanding educational facilitators led our boys around the grounds of the estate, allowing us to see, draw and talk about what we were encountering. We were also given the opportunity to produce some sculptural maquettes of our own, inspired by the works of Anthony Caro which we had seen during the course of the day.
The highlight of the day for all of us was meeting the contemporary sculptor, Jacob van der Beugel, and hearing him talk about his exhibition "Wherever the two shall meet", which opened to the public that evening. Jacob was kind and caring, he listened to our boys and helped them appreciate not just the technical demands of the exhibition but also the ideas behind the subject-matter and choice of materials.
We were very fortunate to have Mr Armstrong, Head of Design and Technology, and Mrs Cadoux-Hudson, Head of Year 7, along with us for the day, ably assisted by Miss Duggan and her trusty First Aid bag.
Thank you very much to the Roche Court Educational Trust for hosting us, and we cannot wait until our next visit.
