Year 6 visit to Fishbourne Roman Palace
Year 6 boys had a great day at the largest Roman villa in Northern Europe this week with the Classics Department.
They revisited the site they first saw in Year 4 as part of their History curriculum, and were amazed at the changes in their own understanding of the Roman world since their last visit.

On this trip, they studied how an archeaologist works with the limited evidence they find, and how Mathematics was used in the Roman world. Both their enthusiasm and evolving knowledge demonstrate the value of revisiting historical sites and building upon prior learning. Alongside that, the boys were also able to recognise items similar to those seen last November during our visit to the Treasury of Winchester College. For example, keys and fishing hooks, thus developing skills by comparing and re-evaluating what they had seen and heard on another trip.
Do ask the boys about the site, the mosaics and the lives of the Romans who lived there - you'll be impressed by their maturity and knowledge! We look forward to creating more cross-curricular learning opportunities for our boys.
In the meantime, several exciting events are happening at the site this summer which may be of interest, should you like to learn about Fishbourne Roman Palace yourself.
