What is STEAM?
UPCOMING - PILGRIMS' STEAM EXPERIENCE: MONDAY 25 MARCH 2024
On Monday morning, Years 2 to 5 will be involved in a "STEAM Experience" that aims to achieve two primary objectives:
- To build mental metaphorical bridges between the subjects of Science, Technology (combining Digital Learning and Design Technology), Engineering, Art and Mathematics; and...
- To build actual bridges, three to be precise, using different materials and assessing them against different criteria.
This planned experience was born from a series of Heads of Department meetings in an effort to work together to model the sort of collaborative and cross-curricular learning that our boys will need to become proficient in as they grow. Between 09:00 - 12:00, the boys will have the opportunity to work as a vertical team (Y2-5) to achieve a specific target for their bridges, whether that be aesthetics, span or strength.
Mr Armstrong and Mr Lloyd will be hosting one challenge in the D&T Workshop, Mr Reid and Mr Orr will be hosting another challenge in the Art Studio and Mr Walters and Mr Stephen Shaw (external facilitator) will be hosting a Lego challenge in the Octagon. Over the three morning lessons, the boys will rotate through the three different challenges, thereby experiencing each one for themselves. We will be on the lookout for the best overall team who not only succeeded at all the challenges given to them but also worked well as a team.
Please keep a lookout for pictures of the day when they are released. We hope that this will spark something exciting and dynamic at Pilgrims'!
