Spotlight on... Greek Club
This term, three brave Year 7 students meet weekly on Monday afternoons for a Greek Commoner (after school club).
They do not need swords or sandals, but they will be facing one of the scariest monsters of all languages: Classical Greek!
The language of Plato, Pythagoras, Alexander the Great and the New Testament, Classical Greek has fascinated and challenged students for millennia. This week, we practiced forming short sentences by reading the first verse of the Gospel of John, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God.'
ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὁ λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος.
Last year, all but one of our Winchester Election scholars took Greek in this way on Monday afternoons, as did both of our Eton Kings Scholars in 2020 and 2022. Many other boys take Greek for Common Entrance and Winchester Entrance.
We hope to see many more new heroes join the challenge!
