Spotlight on: Escape Room Commoner
Escape Room Commoner started this week with 13 curious boys and Miss Higham.
Throughout the week I was besieged by questions asking what it would involve and would they really get ‘locked in’. The boys worked in small groups to solve a variety of puzzles based on different themes, including ‘The Zoo’, ‘Outer Space’ ‘The Explorer’ and the rather unseasonal ‘Elf HQ’.
Excitement built as the shiny envelopes were opened, and different clues came tumbling out. Each group had different puzzles to solve in order to find an 8-digit number. When they had worked out the number, they had to plug it into the online vault to see if they were correct. Time ticked on… with the risk of not escaping if the clock ticked past 6pm… The Year 6s and 7s triumphed first, successfully cracking their code and unlocking the online vault.
They then generously joined the junior groups to lend their expertise – by the end of the first session, no more vaults had been opened, although some were definitely getting close. Thankfully, the possibility of being locked in E1 until the following morning was unrecognised – although the boys now have the tricky job of remembering where they had got to before recommencing their attempt next Monday evening.
