Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races

Choristers from Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 took on the great and the good of Winchester in the annual pancake races held in the Outer Close, organised by the Winchester Rotary.

From two pools, the aim was two have one of the two fastest pool times and try and win this head-to head to make the final.

The Year 4 team made a valiant effort and certainly won the hearts of the visiting supporters. The Year 5 team won their race with Year 6 being undone by St Swithun's. Nevertheless, everyone was enjoying themselves in the warm, early Spring weather. Year 7 were drawn against another of the St Swithun's teams, a heat in which they were narrowly beaten. However, they were extended a glimmer of redemption when it emerged this had been the quickest heat from both teams, forcing a re-match for a place in the final, where The Ivy team were waiting.

The race was very competitive but the Year 7 team showed great determination and pulled off a mighty victory. Going into the last race Year 7 were up against it, but like a phoenix rising from the ashes won the final, when it seemed all was lost during the heats. Cue chorister-mania, cue mass celebration. What scenes!
