Quirister Instrumental Concert on 23 March

On Sunday 23 March, parents of Quiristers had the utmost pleasure of seeing the boys’ instrumental talent on exhibition again.

After the regular Sunday service, in which we heard them sing, we gathered in the Winchester College Music School to hear them play their instruments.

In the November instrumental concert most of the boys had chosen to play their second instrument, which explained why this time we heard a lot of wonderful piano pieces instead. Among them were Gliere’s Prelude in D flat, Price’s Morning Sunbeam, Pescetti’s Presto, Mozart’s Il Mio Tesoro and many more. The audience was also treated to performances on drums, oboe, clarinet, violin and xylophone; all played very well.

The progress made since we last heard them play their relevant instrument was evident – there was more attention to the dynamics, time-keeping and technicalities in the music. Some of the boys showed very advanced skills - we were all very impressed by Will W’s performance from memory of Brahms’s Scherzo in C minor.

With varying levels of experience, every single one of the Quiristers proved their love for music and displayed the hard work they had put in.
