Lightbox stories
It is important for children to see art and design in the wider world and to learn about exciting careers and opportunities.
Recently, Miss Finn invited a professional illustrator to come and lead a special paper cutting workshop with our boys. Tom Coulson works predominately with paper, animation and live projects. He brought in examples of his client work and portfolio, including intricately cut old books and silhouette light designs. 6Z were shown how to use safety knifes, which are tiny scalpels, to cut small details out of black card and create their character or set design from the story Little Red Riding Hood. We practiced lines and story structure and performed at the end of the session. In the afternoon a selection of Year 8’s were able to have a go at creating their own story and successfully produced a short play involving a farmer and a duck, using the silhouette puppets they had made. A fantastic day of making and learning!
