Juniors' VR History Day

On Thursday, the History and Digital Learning Department teamed up to provide pupils in Year 3 to Year 6 with a virtual reality (VR) history experience.  In the short workshops, delivered by Heroes of History, pupils were able to experience events from the past and bring their history to life.

During the morning, pupils visited the worlds of the Ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Romans. Year 6 had a World War II experience, visiting Lonon during the Blitz, the landing beaches in Normandy, and Pearl Harbour.

Tom Halliday, Head of Juniors, commented: “Throughout the sessions the boys were engaged, excited, and had a lot of fun. The buzz created in the room was fantastic to experience, with the boys, and some staff members, using this technology to experience life during different time periods to enhance their prior learning. At Pilgrims’, we are always looking for ways to vary the curriculum to engage and inspire our boys, and I am delighted that the VR History Day was another example of this.”

It’s important that we provide pupils with these opportunities and create a well-balanced, digital experience.  It was great to see the boys so engaged, and hopefully it will inspire them to pursue their history further.
