From a young poet
Ms Carpenter writes: Imagine my delight when, with a beautiful beaming smile, one of my Year 5 Scientists eagerly shows me two poems he has just written: one about the Sun and the other about the Moon. We have been learning about them in our lessons, and I am thrilled that this has inspired this boy to write such gorgeous poetry! (I love the mental picture of the Sun, Jupiter, Venus and Earth going to the ‘bar’ together…)
The Sun
The Sun is a star,
just gone to the bar,
with Jupiter, Venus,
and Earth’s there too.
It sits in the sky,
feeling quite bright,
laughing with Venus,
and chatting to Mars.
Neptune’s quite far,
but still a close friend,
and sometimes it leaves,
but stays in the heart.
The Moon
The Moon is quite dark,
but shines at night,
it gives us light,
when nobody’s there.
It changes day by day,
from new to full,
both would do,
first quarter, last quarter,
does it matter?
It’s still the moon,
after all.
