Flipping fun Shrove Tuesday
What a flipping exciting Shrove Tuesday it was with success for the Year 8 Chorister team.
The Choristers, dressed in their cassocks and trainers, armed with frying pans, competed against school, local business and charity teams in the Winchester Rotary Pancake Day Race. The relay course involved sprinting 38 metres in front of the cathedral whilst tossing a pancake at three points – easier said than done, especially in the drizzle and wind.
The five super speedy Chorister teams (‘Fantastic Chefs’, ‘Strawberry Sugar’, ‘Pancakes of the Caribbean’, ‘Insert name here!’ and ‘Burnt to a crisp’) weren’t fazed by running up against fancy-dress clad adult competition from local organisations including Worthy Down Army base, local estate agents and the city mayors.
Against the odds, our team, ‘Pancakes of the Caribbean’, made it to a nail-biting final against Carter Jonas’s team, ‘Simply better property’. The tension mounted and pancakes were tossed and some dropped. But after much cheering from the crowds, the Choristers WON! Well done to Joe W, Dom K-S and Otto G and Charles N who returned to school proudly wearing their flying pan medals.
Even better, BBC South were at the event, so our Choristers were on the local news! Watch the clip below.
