Falconry Commoner, week 1
Ever pulled a bird or been fed up? Then you have used the vocabulary of falconry!
I was delighted to invite Amews Falconry to our school this week for the five-week course in the sport of falconry.
In Winchester, the heart of the royal mediaeval sport, the boys were not disappointed! After a short presentation of the history of the sport and it's popularity since ancient times, the boys walked to Wolvesey and had their first opportunity to have a bird on their arms. I'm sure you see the trepidation and wonder on their faces in the photographs, but all were brave and had a long walk with their bird without dropping their arms.
For the safety of the boys, only ten could join this commoner, however I hope to be able to offer the opportunity again as it was a popular choice. I certainly had a celebrity guest in the History classroom this week!
