Debating commoner, report from week 6
Welcome to another day of Debating Commoner! Today's motion is: Space travel should be abandoned. The report this week is written by Soichiro H, Year 6.
Proposition: Matthew Z and Nathan C
Opposition: Arthur M and Alfie L
Let's start with Matthew. A funny first impression, but he clearly defined what the motion was. His first point was that space travel is expensive and the money could be diverted to other projects. He also talked about the environmental impact of rocket launchers. He made clear points, but just seemed to have been reading from his notes.
Arthur starts off with a rebuttal. He rebutted Matthew's point of poverty by saying that we need space travel and that we will need the resources of 175 earths in the future. We need to get this from space. He also said that space travel would provide a new home for people. His speech might have been the best I have heard so far.
Nathan gives the proposition the first chance of rebuttal and uses it wisely. He said that even if we can't end poverty, he said we can at least help stop it from happening. He also rebutted the point that satellites aren't a form of space travel. Nathan was great at rebuttals but could not really fulfil his team's name by proposing anything else.
Alfiie was the last to speak as opposition. As opposition, he could not end his talking by making some rebuttals. Alfie said that we need space agencies to launch satellites, which are so important to use in the first place. He also said that by 2030 we will need two earths to sustain our current earth. He was incredibly clear in voice but a bit fuzzy on the points.
Question montage: The interesting point here was that all questions challenged both teams' most important points.
Summary montage: The interesting points here were that Arthur made a list of important things.
It was our first DRAW!
See you next time!
