Ash Wednesday

This week, the school was able to mark Ash Wednesday with a service in the Cathedral.

Canon Tess led the service with grace and wise insights. She asked us to think about how we can use Lent to grow closer to God and gave us some good ideas for doing so, morning and evening remembrance of God being foremost. If we offer the day to God in the morning, and then come before God with thanks and asking forgiveness, in the evening, Canon Tess assures us that we will grow closer to God and doing that will make our lives much better. Giving stuff up for Lent was also explained as a way to become more aware of God. When we feel hungry, it serves to remind us of Jesus, who sadly we often forget as the day wears on, and we become more and more busy. Also, being hungry is a way of expressing our solidarity with the poor and needy. Of course, Lent is not only about giving stuff up. We can also consider what we could do each day to be the person we know we can be at our best. The person God has created us to be.
