Independent Printmaking by Bertie W (Year 8)

During the Christmas holidays, Bertie attended a printmaking workshop and these images are the result of his hard work. In this workshop, Bertie was introduced to both etching and aquatint printmaking.

Tate (2024) defines etching as: "a printmaking technique that uses chemical action to produce incised lines in a metal printing plate which then hold the applied ink and form the image." And it defines aquatint as: "a printmaking technique that produces tonal effects by using acid to eat into the printing plate creating sunken areas which hold the ink."

As an Art teacher, few experiences are more rewarding than witnessing your students venture into the world to explore the vast array of techniques available for creating art. The skills Bertie has developed in printmaking are notably advanced and speak volumes about his interest, dedication and creativity.

Well done, Bertie! Have a Show Up for your efforts.
