Celebrating Book Week and World Book Day

Previous

We are looking forward to celebrating Book Week next week.

A themed lunch will start the celebrations on Monday, while on Tuesday writer AF Harrold will meet all pupils from Reception to Year 8 over three workshops. More about AF below.

Two quizzes will run through the week inviting boys to guess the owner of the photos of 'bookshelves and hands holding books'.

A £1 book token will be given to each boy in school. The token can be redeemed in participating bookshops towards purchases and the £1 WBD books selection. More information is available on the World Book Day website.

On Thursday 2 March, World Book Day, we are inviting all boys to dress up as their favourite book character. Staff will also join the fun, and we cannot wait to see the imaginative ways in which loved books are portrayed.

On Friday 3 March, tutor groups will participate in a virtual challenge which will test their knowledge of books.

AF Harrold's visit and exciting news

Last week it was announced that AF Harrold's latest book The Worlds We leave Behind is included in the longlists of the prestigious Yoto Carnegie Medal, which is UK's longest running book award for children and young people. The book appears in both categories: writing and also illustrations, thanks to the stunning artwork by Levi Pinfold.

We wish AF and Levi great luck and hope they will make it to the shortlist too.

Thank you to those parents who completed the form and preordered AF's books before half-term. The books have now arrived and are ready to be signed by the author. A handful of spare copies of AF's books will be available on the day and will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis by emailing Mrs Brill.

Sadly, no further copies of The Book of Not Entirely Useful Advice are available through booksellers, though a shipment is making his way slowly to the UK.

While we wait for his visit, we continue to receive AF's postcard and here are the latest two. Enjoy reading them.
