They swabbed the inside of their cheek and then transferred the cells to a slide. After staining the slide with Methylene Blue, a chemical dye that makes cell organelles more visible, they placed a cover slip over the top and put them onto the stage of their microscope. 

From these photos the cells are clear to see and the black dot in the middle of the cell is the nucleus. Within this is the DNA for that student, and from this you could make an exact clone of that student - or is one enough for you?
