Year 8 post-exam trip to 878 AD exhibition
This week Year 8 visited the new museum in Winchester 878 AD as an end of term treat after their examinations. They had a super time and lots of fun, as the pictures show.
The interactive museum is clever and modern, and encourages learning about life in Anglo-Saxon Winchester in the year 878 AD through actors, digital screens and primary artefacts. The boys shouted their support for Alfred and pleaded for the life of a slave!
In order to apply the learning experience to their course, the boys were encouraged to consider if life at that time was brutal and violent or more complicated. I look forward to our discussions and would encourage further investigation through resources like the 878 AD app which is available at the museum and reading around the Anglo-Saxon period. A number of books are recommended here.
