Year 5 visit to Winchester City Museum

Previous
Next

It was exciting to walk over to the Winchester City Museum with our Year 5 boys in the sunshine and through the colourful autumn leaves;  what a privilege to have such a great resource so close!

In the museum, the boys learnt about life and death in Roman Venta Belgarum and Saxon Wintanceaster from the wide range of artefacts they hold. The staff were very interesting, and the boys enjoyed learning how to play nine men morris and make badges in their workshops. The boys investigated the past through items such as coins, mosaics, clothing, games and tombs before returning to school ready for lunch.
Please visit this museum and others in the holidays and encourage your son to carefully consider what the artefacts and items reveal to us today.  Learning this sort of general knowledge is invaluable, and fun!
