Year 4 Art trip to Reading Museum
To establish an understanding of visual narrative, character development and sequential actions represented in a linear pictorial format, the Year 4s visited Reading Museum's identical copy of the Bayeux Tapestry (while Year 6 enjoyed the real thing).
In the format of an interactive workshop, the museum gave the boys an opportunity to both role-play key characters in the tapestry and get up close and personal with the symbolism and iconography of the 'historical' narrative through guided activities.
After this workshop and a quick lunch, the boys were then allowed to explore and discover the museum's other treasures in its collection. This included a visit to the Huntley and Palmers gallery where one of our boys shared with us his personal familial connection to these heroes of Reading.
Thank you to Miss McGrath and Mr Shroff for kindly assisting me with supervision on the day. I am looking forward to seeing the Year 4s apply all the lessons we learnt in Reading to our year-long illustration project.
