The Pilgrims’ School Time Capsule Project 2022: Let’s bury Covid!

In a History lesson last term, Year 7 boys were thinking of examples of items that could be useful to a historian: we aimed to learn more about the past through sources and artefacts. We considered what limitations some sources would have and why the origin of a source is so important. The boys made very interesting comments about utility and bias, as our boys often do. One boy asked if we could make a school time capsule, and it seemed to me to be a wonderful opportunity!

The cathedral was helpful and supportive in helping locate a site for the time capsule to be buried, and the timing was right to 'bury Covid'. There have been so many different experiences throughout the past two years, and the future will be studying it carefully.

I hope you will all choose an artefact from your experience of Covid. A group of boys in school will consider all the ideas we receive for the time capsule and select as many as possible. We are very much looking forward to reading about your choices and hope that this will prove to be a source of great utility and interest for people in the future.
