for the week ending 28 May

EYFS News

What a wonderful week it has been, welcoming new life in the form of chicks and butterflies!  The boys in Reception have taken their job of 'Mother Hen' very seriously, I have never had such an enthusiastic bunch of boys willing to clean out the cage.

The chicks are safely settled into their new homes, with Mrs Walker and the Burnand family. We look forward to hearing on their progress in the coming weeks.

On Monday morning, the boys were greeted by three butterflies, having emerged from their cocoon over the weekend, with the final one being released on Thursday in the glorious sunshine, after a morning at Forest School embracing butterflies.

There has been so much learning in the form of sharing, turn taking, caring for others to name a few. Truly some 'WOW' moments to treasure; a memory of Reception that I hope the boys will take with them, in years to come recalling: 'Do you remember when the chicks hatched?'

The boys have been amazed by just how quickly the chicks have grown with visible wing and tail feathers.

It has been lovely to welcome visiting classes to share this experience and Thank you to Sophia and Bertie Leslie who ably took charge over the weekend.

Boys, I am so proud of you all , and I am awarding a special Pilgrims Chick Award to each boy in Reception, well done and thank you!

Year 1

This week Year 1 have been learning about Motte and Bailey castles through the medium of sculpture! The boys have undertaken an amazing construction project and have created their own Motte and Bailey 3D castles. To achieve this, they have had to learn about the history of castles and how castles changed over time. They have also learnt about the different parts of a castle, including the buildings in the Bailey. The boys have had wonderful time being messy and creative!
