Year 3 Design & Technology Project: ‘Time Maze’ Clock - Design and Production

Previous
Next

This term, Year 3 have embarked on an exciting project combining creativity, technical skills, and practical design experience. Inspired by Daniel Libeskind’s Time Maze, the project introduced architectural influences in product design.

Key skills developed included using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to transform clock ideas into digital formats, refining designs, and preparing files for laser cutting. Students worked with MDF, learning about material properties and safety measures during production. Advanced tools, like the laser cutter, were used to create their designs and (Mr Armstrong!) applied techniques in spray-painting for a polished finish.

The final stages focused on assembling the clock mechanism and choosing protective acrylic shielding. This hands-on project enhanced creativity and technical proficiency while emphasising functionality and aesthetics in design. The final clocks were proudly displayed for peer and teacher evaluation, marking the culmination of a successful and comprehensive learning journey.
