Harvest Service in Winchester Cathedral

On Thursday 10 October, we Pilgrims were privileged to hold our annual service to celebrate Harvest at Winchester Cathedral.

It’s said that Reverend Robert Hawker, a vicar in Cornwall, introduced the idea of having a harvest festival in church in the 1800s, with hymns giving thanks for the bounty of the fields and orchards. In the majestic surroundings of our Cathedral, the assembled congregation of boys, staff, and parents participated in this now-familiar tradition and were reminded to be thankful for what we have, and to share our abundance cheerfully with others, especially those who may not be as fortunate as we are.

The Chamber Choir, ably directed by Mr du Plessis and accompanied by Mr Castle, sang a glorious rendition of John Rutter's harvest anthem 'For the Beauty of the Earth'. The reading by Max H and the prayers by Charles N, Timothy C and Mr Cuyler helped us all to reflect on the harvest message. And special thanks to Revd Jo Criscenti for joining us and speaking at this special service.
