In Year 7, students are diving into the intriguing world of painter Fabien Verdier. Verdier is known for her vibrant use of colour and her ability to blend music with visual art. Students are exploring how music influences their own artistic expressions by creating pieces that reflect the rhythms and emotions found in music. They are encouraged to listen to various musical genres and express what they feel through their art. This project helps students understand the powerful connection between sound and sight, allowing them to create unique artworks that resonate with both forms of creativity.
Meanwhile, Year 4 students are channelling their creativity into making maquettes inspired by Alexander Calder's famous sculpture, "The Flying Dragon." Calder's work is known for its playful movement and colourful designs, which inspire students to think about balance and structure in their own creations. Using materials like cardboard, paper, and lightweight objects, students are constructing miniature models that capture the essence of Calder's flying dragon while adding their personal touches. This hands-on project not only develops their artistic skills but also encourages them to experiment with shapes and movement in sculpture.
Year 3 students are embarking on a collaborative journey to recreate cave paintings and bones found in France, a project that connects them to early human history. Working in small groups, they are researching the significance of these ancient artworks and the stories they tell about life thousands of years ago. Using natural materials and techniques that mimic those used by prehistoric artists, students are creating their own cave paintings on large rolls of paper. This project fosters teamwork, creativity, and a deeper understanding of art as a means of communication throughout history, allowing students to appreciate the roots of artistic expression.
