Book Club, Lent term 2024

This is a busy and relatively short term, and the Book Club's choices and timings are mindful of that. We are inviting boys to discuss the titles suggested here after half-term, during Book Week, which will take place on our return from half-term.

Hopefully, this will give them all an opportunity both within the term and whilst on holiday to explore the two books selected for Lent 2024. Both books are a relatively easier read in terms of length; however, both are skillfully written and set to spark deep reflections and very interesting conversations in our meetings.

 

The choice for Seniors is The Final Year by Matt Goodfellow

Written in verses, this story follows Nate as he prepares to leave his primary school. Friendship issues, bullying, caring for younger siblings are some of the themes explored skilfully by Goodfellow. There is a beautiful connection to the book Skellig, which I hope the boys will enjoy.

The book selected for Juniors is The Lucky Bottle, written and illustrated by Chris Wormell  

The language is rich and readers are bound to lose themselves in the stunning illustrations. Here, too, there are links with other classic books which may encourage further reading.

The library will have two copies of each book, which will be available from Monday 15 January on a one-week only loan on a first-come-first served basis, so that a number of pupils can access them over the coming weeks.
