Congratulations to Mr Cleaver and the Cross-Country runners!
Mr Cleaver has these words and pictures….
We have had a bumper week of cross-country fixtures. Last Friday, we took teams from Years 3 – 8 to Eagle House in another first for Pilgrims’. The field was strong, and the course was tough, including the infamous “killer hill”. Our boys represented themselves well, and it was a pleasure to give some pupils in the younger years some race experience.
Stand out performances were:
- George B: 5th in the Year 3 race
- Patrick B: 11th in the Year 5 race
- Fraser N: 9th in the Year 7 race
And it was an absolutely outstanding performance from Seb N romping into a wide lead for 1st place in the Year 8 race.
Today, Pilgrims’ entered into the Year7 and 8 Eastleigh and Winchester District trials competing against many state schools from Romsey, Hamble, Eastleigh, and Winchester. We were the only independent Prep School represented, and I am delighted to share that all of our Year 7 boys qualified for the Hampshire Schools' County Championships with all Pilgrims’ finishing in the top twenty. In the Year 8 race Seb N cruised into an easy win against a high calibre field. Other boys all finished inside the top thirty with Toby L narrowly missing out on selection, finishing 22nd.
On Wednesday, we have a block fixture with Westbourne House School near Chichester. U13 (Year 8) and three Foals (Year 5) rugby teams are away.
We are also taking a squad of touch rugby players (Seniors) for a match, away at Westbourne.
An U12 (Year 7) sevens team travels to Boundary Oak School, Fareham, with a tournament start time of 1330.
U12 A and all Colts (Year 6) teams are at home playing Westbourne.
Foals not in these fixtures, U13 hockey and Under 9s (Year 4) have coaching with a 1530 collection.
Four intrepid table tennis players take part the U11 Hampshire Schools competition at Solent University.
On Friday afternoon, we have our long-anticipated Under 8 (Year 3) and Under 9 triangular matches with Thorngrove and Brockhurst schools.
Please note: Under 9s are playing at Brockhurst School and Under 8s are playing at Thorngrove School.
On Saturday, we have a block fixture with Farleigh School. U13 and three Colts rugby teams are away.
U12 and Foals sevens teams travel to Cothill School, Abingdon, with a tournament start time of 1110. If any parents are thinking of travelling and could help with lift sharing subject to parental permission, please let me know.
U12 A and all Foals (Year 6) teams are at home playing Farleigh, and there is also a Senior touch rugby match.
Under 9s have coaching with a 1400 collection.
Colts not in these fixtures and U13 hockey have coaching with a 1530 collection.
For next Monday, I will be selecting a minibus full of U10 water polo players for a meeting with Twyford after school; the proposed squads appearing on SOCS soon. It will start at around 1715 with a 1830 collection from school, or sign out from Twyford.
After being waterlogged and frozen off, it’s great to be getting back to a busy sport schedule as we approach half-term.
