Welcome back to the new term. Today we have had fixtures with Westbourne House, news of which will follow next week.
On Saturday, we have cricket teams in action against Moulsford, Forres Sandle Manor and Farleigh.
ISFA Representative News
Despite being back only a week there is plenty of news to share and celebrate. Firstly, over the Easter holidays, Gabriel O represented the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) South Central region at Shrewsbury School. Over 140 players from 8 regions attended. The competition was of a high standard. South Central won 4, drew 1 and lost 2. Of the eight goals scored, Gabriel scored five. From this, he has been selected to go through to the National squad camp. Huge congrats Gabriel!
IAPS Clay Pigeon Shooting
I took three under 12 boys and six under 13 boys to compete in the IAPS clay shooting tournament at the historic West London Shooting School.
The Under 12s shot four pairs of clays at 5 different stands, whilst the Under 13s shot five pairs of clays at 5 different stands. As you can see from the photos all the boys looked the part in their country attire and Pilgrims' Shooting Team gilets. Every boy shot well and supported and encouraged their teammates to shoot well (despite a bit of healthy inter team competition).
Highlights of the day included Teddy M shooting ten from ten at stand #4 which included a clay coming towards and one going away. Ray C was our best shot, hitting an impressive 39/50 in total, including a 10/10 on stand #5 (something no other shooter from any school managed) placing him around 4th best shooter in the under 13s category.
Our Under 12s took 1st place in the WLSS competition. Our Under 13ths came 6th out of 17 teams.
I am very excited to see how our under 12s progress into under 13s next year at the various competitions and I encourage boys to gain as much practice and experience out of school as possible.

Fencing
Pilgrims’ fencers were in action at the British Youth Fencing Championships this weekend in Sheffield. Bertie C, Kevin G from Year 6 and Teddy E from Year 5 all took part. All were up against seriously strong competition - especially from the London, Eastern and South Eastern regions. The competition brings the regional winners from the whole of Great Britain and Northern Island, including the Channel Islands.
After a series of matches and knockout phases – which started with 128 competitors – Bertie emerged as 13th for his age category in the country!
Congratulations to Bertie, Kevin and Teddy.
Senior Inter-Set Cricket - Round 1
A really interesting afternoon of Inter-Set Cricket, in perfect conditions, completed the first round of competitive matches between the five sets. With 3 points for a win, 1 point for losing, bonus points for batting and bowling, 1 point for every 15 runs (max of 4 points) and 1 point for every 2 wickets taken (max of 4 points), plus an extra losing bonus point if a team is within 5 or fewer runs of the opposition; there was everything to play for. The table below shows the standings after the first round. Well done to all boys who represented their sets.
