From the Sport Department – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We hope you all enjoy the holiday and come back rested and refreshed in January.
Below are some images of last week: Year 7 badminton, heading down to Bailey under the floodlights for football and rugby commoners and images from the U13 rugby encounter with Horris Hill.
Also, you can read Mr Duncan’s match report from round 4 of the U13 ISFA cup match from Saturday. I would like to add my congratulations to the 1st XI, and Mr Duncan, for what has been a truly magnificent season and one that will remain long in the memory.
ISFA U13 Round 4
The 1st XI season ended with a heavy loss to Shrewsbury House in the 4th round of the ISFA cup. To give them their due, Shrewsbury House were a better and stronger team than we were, but we were in the game until about 15 minutes to go, and the real disappointment is that the game didn’t end more like the 4-1 it was at that stage, which would have been a fairer result on the balance of play than the eventual landslide! The boys learnt a hard lesson: sometimes the game gets away from you and there is little you can do once the heads go down. At the end of the game, I was clear to remind the boys that, despite the score, they should hold their heads high; the 1st XI have had an excellent season. Indeed, to get to the 4th round was an achievement beyond any that the 1st XI has achieved in my time at the school. At the end of a long season, glorious performances like the 4-1 away win at Ryde School, the away win at Twyford, or the winning of the Hall Grove tournament should be what lingers in the memory. A successful 1st XI season in your final year at prep school is something to cherish, and I hope that the boys do so.
Mr Duncan
